A Smarter Front Door: Our Partnership with Infermedica

We're delighted to announce our partnership with Infermedica, a global leader in clinical AI, bringing certified AI triage to NHS general practice. It's a partnership that pairs the platform practices already rely on with one of the most rigorously validated clinical assessment engines in the world — and it marks an important step in how we help practices manage patient demand safely, consistently and at scale.

The problem we set out to solve

For millions of patients, getting into general practice still begins with the 8am rush: overwhelmed phone lines, a limited number of appointments, and reception teams under real pressure to manage it all. But access is only half the challenge. Practices also have to work out which patients need urgent clinical attention, which can safely wait, and which would be better served by another service entirely. When that judgement is made manually, request by request, it consumes an enormous amount of clinical and administrative time.

We built GP Triage to change that — to move general practice away from a first-come, first-served model and towards one where access is organised around clinical need.

How the partnership works

The best way to understand this partnership is as two halves of one system.

GP Triage is the digital front door and everything around it. Our platform gives patients a simple route into their practice, then turns each triage outcome into real-world action — booking into the right slot, routing to the right team or service, and giving clinicians a structured summary before the consultation. We provide the care navigation, the workflow automation, the practice dashboard and the integration with the systems practices already use.

Infermedica provides the certified clinical assessment engine that sits underneath it. Its Clinical AI Triage powers the adaptive symptom interview at the heart of the patient journey — asking the right follow-up questions based on what the patient tells it, and producing a structured recommendation based on clinical urgency.

Together, that's certified clinical assessment combined with a platform purpose-built around the operational realities of NHS general practice.

What "certified" actually means here

This is what makes the partnership matter. Infermedica's Clinical AI Triage is part of its Medical Guidance Platform - an MDR Class IIb-certified medical device, registered with the MHRA. It has been developed using more than 155,000 hours of physician work and has supported over 27 million health assessments worldwide.

So when a patient is assessed through GP Triage, that assessment is powered by technology validated to a high clinical and regulatory bar — not a generic, off-the-shelf model. For practices and their clinical safety teams, that's a foundation you can trust.

What the patient journey looks like

A patient enters through the digital front door — no morning phone queue required — and completes a structured symptom assessment that adapts to their answers. Infermedica's engine assesses the information and generates an urgency-based recommendation. From there, and according to the pathways each practice has configured, GP Triage guides the patient to the right next step: urgent or emergency care, a GP appointment within an appropriate timeframe, another primary care service, or self-care where that's the safe and sensible option.

Where an appointment is appropriate, we integrate with the practice's booking workflow to offer suitable availability. And the resulting clinical information is passed to the practice team as a structured summary — so clinicians start the consultation already informed, rather than asking patients to repeat what they've already said.

What it means for practices

The point of all of this is simple: help practices increase capacity without simply adding more admin or clinical work.

For patients, easier access and clearer routes to care.
For reception and care navigation teams, far less time spent manually interpreting clinical requests.
For clinicians, more time focused on the patients who genuinely need their expertise.

The results already speak to it. GP Triage has served over one million patients to date, automated up to 450 care navigation pathways, and helped practices save up to 40 hours of manual triage workload every week.

"Partnering with Infermedica means every patient gets a consistent, clinically informed assessment from the very first step — and our teams get their time back for the patients who need them most."

Building a more intelligent front door to primary care

As the NHS continues to modernise patient access, we believe technology should help general practice organise care around clinical need — combining consistent clinical assessment, intelligent navigation and automation with the workflows practices already trust.

That's exactly what this partnership delivers. And it's just the beginning.
